"The author of this "Blood Bespotted Diary", Oliver Lustig, was arrested by the Horthyst gendarmes on May 3, 1944, interned in the ghetto of Cluj and then deported to Birkenau-Auschwits along with his whole family. His mother, Iolanda, his twin borther and sister Cornel and Cornelia, aged fourteen, and his youngest brother Valentin, aged eight, were taken straightly to the gas chamber and burnt in one of the cremaroties there. His father, Edmund, was killed at Mauthausen. Later the authors was moved to Dachau, to concentration camps Kaufering - 4, Kaufering - 9 and finally to Landsberg - 1. Out of the seven Lustig brothers and sisters it was only four that survived.
Oliver Lustig has dedicated himself to recalling and committing to paper the horrors of the Holocaust. |
